Apple iPhone 4S vs Nokia Lumia 800

Choosing a phone to buy is one of the hardest decisions a gadget fan can make. To make things easier we look at two of the latest smartphones to hit the shelves – the Apple iPhone 4S and the Nokia Lumia 800 to see how they compare. Which gets your vote?

Size

Need a phone you can fit into your pocket? The Apple iPhone 4S and Nokia Lumia 800 both fit the bill. The Nokia Lumia is just slightly taller, thicker and wider, but only by mere fractions of millimetres, yet the Nokia Lumia 800 still weighs 5 grams less than the Apple iPhone 4.

Screen
The Apple iPhone 4S has a 3.5 inch screen boasting Apple’s Retina Display. It’s so clear you won’t see a stray pixel. Likewise, the Nokia Lumia 800’s AMOLED ClearBlack screen is just as easy on the eyes and looks good whatever is being displayed. The coloured tiles of the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system looks particularly lush.

Storage
For storage, the Apple iPhone 4S does very well. It comes in three models offering 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB of storage. iPhone 4S owners can also use Apple’s iCloud service, or download a Dropbox app for even more cloud storage.

The Nokia Lumia 800 is limited to 16GB of built in storage. With no microSD card slot, Nokia handset owners can download Dropbox or sign up to Windows Live SkyDrive to store and share files, photos and video.

Photos & Video
The Apple iPhone 4S and Nokia Lumia 800 are not far apart when it comes to video and photos. The Apple iPhone 4S records video in 1080p definition, Nokia Lumia records at 720p higher definition. iPhone 4S apps such as iMovie and the editing functions on the iPhone 4S give it more of an edge over the Nokia Lumia 800, but they both do a great job. As photography goes, things are closer. Both phones have an eight megapixel sensor and features such as an LED flash and autofocus. Nokia shades it, however, thanks to fantastic Carl Zeiss optics.

Apps
Apps are more important than ever. Apple iPhone 4S owners are spoilt for choice when it comes to apps. There are apps for everything, and some fantastic games to download. Nokia Lumia 800 owners can download apps and games from the Windows Marketplace, and although there aren’t as many as in Apple’s App Store the list of apps continues to grow by the day.

As we can see both phones match each other in many areas – the biggest difference coming in the app department. The Windows Marketplace will only continue to grow, and the gap between the two should close even more.

Phoney

I think you also need a section titled "value for money". I managed to get a Nokia Lumia 800 for free with a 200 minute, unlimited texts, 500Mb data plan for £15.50 a month. I don't think there's anything close for an iPhone 4S.
