Apple hiring antenna expert
iPhone 4 – any good antenna guys out there?
Apple is apparently looking to hire an antenna expert after the furore of its new iPhone 4 reception quality refuses to die down. The electronics giant has begun advertising for an “Antenna Engineer” to work on the iPhone.
The job posting is seeking applicants with more than 10 years experience with radio frequencies, and at least five years’ experience in antenna design. Looks like they’re taking the issue more seriously than a simple software upgrade.
Applicants with PhDs are preferred, and Apple says experience of antenna technology “hands-on is a must.” An unfortunate turn of phrase given the recent controversy surrounding holding positions of the phone.
Apple also asks that applicants are proficient in “talking data” and “using Excel” – a Microsoft progam? Whatever next?

I don't seem to be having such a huge problem with the antenna like most people claim to be. If I hold the phone cupped in my hands then the signal does decrease, but isn't it the same with every phone on the market? covering up the antenna surely will affect the signal.

Far be it from me to defend Apple (I dont own an iPhone and never will), but the Antenna engineer job adverts on the Apple site were posted there on 23rd June and even one back in January...BEFORE the iPhone 4 was released!

In reply to Martin Duggan. Does this mean that Apple knew about the problem before it was released, but still released it?

I have an iPhone 4 and am absolutely loving it. The quality of the hardware is breathtaking. Like a classic Dieter Rams Braun product it exudes class. The iOS flies and multi-tasking, folders etc are welcome updates. The best bits are Amazing screen - especially for reading text Best cameraphone currently available (as confirmed by PC World blind testing) Excellent HD video capture Brilliant iMovie editing software. I have had no problems with the antennae issue, but it is obviously a real issue for lots of people - let's hope it can be fixed with a software update.

Apparently you only lose signal if you hold the bottom left corner, so I'm guessing that they didn't have any left handed testers. This makes me very unhappy as I am left handed.
