Apple drops Mac Mini price by £50

The Gadget Show  Wednesday 03 November 2010

Apple drops Mac Mini price by £50 £50 cheaper than this time yesterday

Normally Apple product news is accompanied by the ceremonial Apple Store downtime and inevitable PR blitz afterwards.

So it was a bit of a surprise to see the company dishing up a Europe-wide price cut to its Mac Mini desktop computer with barely a mention.

That’s right – for once it’s us on this side of the Atlantic that are getting the jump on our Apple-loving US counterparts with a £50 price cut to the Mac Mini, with the starting price for the 2.4GHz base model now falling to £599, and the 2.66GHz version now starting at £879.

The US price remains $699 for the cheapest Mini – though of course that still amounts to the equivalent of just £435, so it’ll take a few more reductions yet before we’re really on the same footing as US consumers.

We’re still better off than Mac Mini fans on the continent, however. Despite an even bigger €100 price cut, the 2.4GHz Mac Mini still costs €709, or about £30 more than the UK price.

I would buy a lot more apple products if they did not charge silly prices why should we pay for all the R&D. People will always pay up for a good product but we do not like to pay more than anybody else.
