Free iPad books: Apple iBookstore launches in the UK
Not content with taking over the world with MP3 players, laptops, smartphones and tablets, Apple also has its eye on the eBook market, seeing its iPad as the perfect device to take on the Amazon Kindle. As such, the company has just launched its iBookstore in the UK, with over 30,000 free eBooks available to download.
When the Apple iPad first launched, we loved it to bits – it had a gorgeous screen, build quality was way above anything else, and it was impossibly slim. The only slight issue a few of us had, was that we didn’t actually know what to do with it. Since then, the iPad has turned into a jack of all trades, with eBooks being the latest area Apple is concentrating on.
The iPad isn’t the only product in Apple’s lineup that’s great for reading eBooks on the move either. The Apple iPhone 4, with its amazingly sharp Retina display, is also more than capable when it comes to flicking through the latest novels and staying entertained on the move.
To take advantage, Apple has now brought the iBookstore to iTunes, with a staggering collection of books on offer. You can choose from 24 different categories – from crime, to horror, to comedy – and as with other iTunes content you can check out reviews from other users before downloading.
Better yet, the iBookstore is now available for iTunes users in the UK.

I think your research team needs a kick! iBooks launched along with iOS4 on May 28th 2010 in the UK and isn't a new feature. iOS5 is brining a new feature called "Newsstand" to organize magazine and newspaper subscriptions and help promote that use of the iPad and other iDevices but that isn't due to be released until Autumn.

I agree with Brendan Warren. Newsstand is the new feature for iOS 5 ... iBooks have been out since iOS 4. I thought you guys were ahead of the curve ... not almost a year behind it!

Just clicked through to this from Facebook, because I thought it was odd. Yep it was. Haven't watched the show for months, and just unliked the FB page. Goodbye and thanks for all the fish.

Poor research. The only new feature with iBooks is the ability to browse and buy through iTunes on your computer rather than just on the device ... Some bargains to be had though :)
