Water way to go...
There’s been a veritable clutch of new waterproof cameras appearing on the market. Looking at both ends of the H20-friendly camera spectrum I plucked the affordable Fujifilm FinePix Z33WP and fairly pricey Canon PowerShot D-10.
In the red corner we have the Fujifilm – a very light and compact offering. While its styling gives away its budget nature, it is still waterproof down to three metres for up to two hours at a time, and also dust-proof, so it’s ideal for sandy beaches.
And in the blue corner – Canon’s offering, which is waterproof down to a whopping ten metres and looks a little like a mini submarine. Even out the water it’s extremely competent, and shares its menu system with the non-waterproof IXUS compacts.
So, which of these two water-loving cameras is more Jacques Cousteau than Jacques in the box? I went down to the local sea centre to see how they fared under in a bit of the old H20, when they came face to face with some colourful tropical fish…
