Watchphones – back to the future
A slice of retro-futuristic cool? Or a convergence too far?
I’m loving the new watchphone just announced today by the Gadget Shop. We’ve already seen ones by LG and Samsung surface this year and for me they’re the kind of pointless gadget that it’s good to get excited about.
I mean, I’m not sure if I’d ever use one on a daily basis, but they’ve got that thrilling, retro-futuristic cool: it’s what we imagined the future would be like 20 years ago – we’d all be wearing jetpacks, eating three-course-dinner pills and communicating with our watchphones.
Another great example of this is 3DTV – it’s been bubbling away for decades now, but it looks as though we;l all be donning 3D spex before too long.
What do you think? Would you shell out for a slice of watchphone tech? What’s your favourite bit of retro-futuristic tech, either real or imaginary…

I'm having flashbacks of knight rider. It's a great idea for people like me with 2 phones who travel and hate pockets bulging with phones. Less chance of leaving it in a taxi again too. I could put my work sim in the watch and just carry my iPhone for pleasure. Just need a Bluetooth headset for the watch so other people don't hear all my conversation. If the Bluetooth headset can pair to both phones and switch easily, everyting would be perfect. Where can I get one? I want it now!

I was looking at this watch on a website to buy it and I was wondering if it is actually any good. Because of the low price, I thought that it might be completely rubbish. So if anyone could help me out with this before I buy it I would be very grateful. Also can you send text messages on it??

Seems to me, as a gadget person, it is something you should have rather that use. The ultimate gadget for me would be the Star Trek Holodeck. With Suzi programmed in of course.
