If cleanliness is next to godliness then these three washing machines are the clothe-cleaning equivalent of Zeus, Apollo and, er, Poseidon. Or so their manufacturers would have us believe. That’s why I headed to Pinewood Studios and enlisted the help of one of Britain’s most notorious clean-freaks (and I mean that in the nicest possible way), Anthea Turner, to put them through their paces.

Each has its own special talents: the Gorenje has a claimed “fastest spin speed of any washing machine in the world”, the Indesit Moon has a space-age design (hence the name) and an A+ rating, and the LG Steam Direct Drive uses steam to give a “deeper clean” and has a whopping 9kg drum.

There was really only one way to test them, and that was to let Anthea cover me and my clothes in baby food, ketchup, and beetroot! It’s not everyday you get to be smeared in food by an ex-Blue Peter presenter! Anyway, I digress. Which one of the three washig machines is king of the cleaners? Watch the video to find out…
