The Top 10 printers

Monday 09 August

This week on the gadget Show, we find out what the best printers on the market are. While we narrowed it down to five on the Show, we’ve gathered together the full Top 10 right here to inform your printer purchasing – enjoy!

Kodak ESP 3250 The Kodak ESP 3250 is an all-in-one printer that lets you scan, copy and print. Combined with Kodak’s own low-cost pigment ink cartridges it lets you print at a fraction of the cost of many other printers – and coupled with the great picture quality makes this one a winner in our book.

Lexmark Interact S605 The Lexmark Interact S605 lets you print from multiple computers over a wireless connection at speeds of up to 33 pages per minute. A 4.3-inch touchscreen, memory card slot and Pictbridge lets you view and print photos straight from your digital camera’s memory card.

Canon PIXMA iP4700 Billed as the ultimate A4 printer, the Canon PIXMA iP4700 promises fast print speeds, photo-lab quality prints within 20 seconds and the ability to print directly from your camera via built-in PictBridge technology.

Epson Stylus Photo P50 This high definition printer from Epson uses the company’s own Claria Photographic Ink that Epson claims exceeds lab quality prints. When replacing the cartridges you only replace the ink you use, making it cost-effective. It’ll even do prints in as little as 12-seconds.

Epson Stylus Photo PX810FW The Epson Stylus Photo PX810FW is a 4-in-1high definition printer that lets you print, copy, fax and scan. Built-in Wi-fi lets you print wirelessly from any computer in your home or office. Double sided printing also lets you save paper.

Brother DCP-375CW A stylish 3-in-1 Wi-fi-enabled printer that prints, copies and scans. Its media card centre lets you print images straight off a memory card. It has a print detail of 6000×1200dpi and can print 6×4-inch photos in 49 seconds.

Brother MFC6890CDW The Brother MFC6890CDW lets you scan, print and copy and lets you take advantage of its wireless network abilities to print from your computer without the hassle of cables. It can print at a speed of up to 35 pages per minute and grab photos to print directly from your camera’s memory card.

Canon PIXMA MP640 This multi-functional inkjet printer from Canon has Wi-fi capability letting you print from a computer without hooking it up with cables, can scan, print and copy. It’s capable of printing photo-lab quality photos in just 20-seconds.

HP Photosmart C4680 The HP Photosmart C4680 is a 3-in-1 multi-tasking printer with printing, copying and scanning skills. It’ll print A4 colour prints in as little as 23-seconds and has a print quality of up to 4800×1200 dpi.

HP Photosmart Premium All-in-One Printer CD055B With the HP Photosmart Premium All-in-One Printer CD055B not only can you print, copy and scan, you can view and edit photos without a PC using the large touchscreen slapped upon its face. Wireless connectivity lets you print from other devices, including iPhones. Two-sided printing also reduces paper wastage.

Fantastic show as usual folks! I'm looking for some help - please. My husband has had a stroke and has been stuck in hospital for the last 4 weeks. My son bought him a portable DVD player to pass the time, but it had a tiny remote control which we think the cleaners have removed (they don't check what they are clearing away), which means he can't watch it any more. I can't afford to replace the player, although it was a cheap one from Tesco (Technika Portable DVD Player PDVD7SS10) as we're on benefit and it's costing me a fortune to go in and visit him, and they don't have replacement remotes. Please, please, have you any suggestions?

Liked the item on the canoes and walking gadgets, especially as we sail and climb in the area (there 3 weeks ago), but for goodness sake please learn to pronounce the place names correctly. Loch not lock and Leven pronounced Leaven!

If your looking for a printer without the bells and whistles try the Canon Pixma IP3600 still selling in alot of places and online between £52 - £60 and can get inks from amazon for £16 for full set.

I can't believe that the Canon MP990 didn't make at least the top ten! Sure, it's probably one of the more expensive printers in the test, but the quality is great. Perhaps there were some set-up issues?

Only reason Kodak won is because Gadget show is sponsored by Dixons Store Group and they have a lot of Kodak in stock!!

I bought a Kodak on the basis of this review - the colours of the prints are washed out, lifeless, dull and are completely lacking in contrast. Much poorer than my previous epson & I wish I had not bought it - the prints may be cheap but they are poor & basically a waste of time. In addition, when will printer manufacturers realise that you do-not need to replace an empty colour cartridge if you are only printing b&w and your b&w cartridge has lots left in it - VERY poor software design in my view. Overall rating - do-not buy this printer - get something better.

Having used the HP Photosmart C4680 specifically for printing photos, I'm less than impressed. Whilst the prints may be of a fairly good quality, the ink comes off the paper! I've tried several different photo papers and always get the same result. I've also found that paper smaller than A4 doesn't feed properly, resulting in the photos printing at angles. Not great for a printer designed specifically for photos! I'm certainly not sold on buying HP products again. I'm now looking at some Canon printers - I've used a couple in the past and they've been great. Any recommendations welcome! All-in-one would be handy for scanning documents for work and Wi-fi capable would be great.

Brilliant item as always, made my printer buying decision a whole lot easier. I've got the Lexmark A4 Interact S605 Printer, it is a dream. The speed and clarity of my photo prints are amazing. I got a good deal too, from the Printer Experts at www.colour-laser-printers.co.uk managed to get a free 8gb usb stick thrown in too.

bought kodak after reading this and sent it back to store it tryed to crash windows xp then eventually loaded to windows 7 computer but wouldnt recognise printer. what a stupid idea having disk to load software that then tells u to download off web. Gone back to epson printer. stick disc in and sets up without having to connect to web. easy peasy.
