The gorgeous Canon 4k concept
We’re always on the lookout for some next-gen concept products, but not many of them make the kind of impression Canon’s stunning 4k camera concept does.
This eye-catching prototype boasts an 8-megapixel CMOS sensor, but more noticeable from a specification point of view is its ability to shoot 60fps video at the quite bonkers resolution of 7680×4320 – hence the name 4k. To put it in perspective – there isn’t a TV currently in production capable of showing footage at the quality this baby can shoot.
Impressive though they are, however, the numbers arguably pack less wow factor than the striking design. The viewfinder sits in the middle of the uncluttered rear of the camera, directly behind the centre-mounted lens, with the pop-up LCD above, giving the entire camera body a more symmetrical, balanced feel.
In keeping with the concept product tag, the camera body is sadly very much a one-off – though hopefully it’s shows what Canon’s design department is aiming for in years to come. The good news is that the technology inside the Canon 4k concept is very much on its way to future generations of high-end DSLRs. Is it too soon to pre-order, we wonder?
