Sony Walkman - time to give up your iPod: Your thoughts!

Earlier on the Gadget Show news blog, we brought you details of the latest Sony Walkman portable media player, and asked you whether you’re still interested in a stand alone device, or happy to stick with your phone for music playback. It’s only been a few hours, but already we’ve had 50 comments, and it seems like you guys are quite divided.

The new Sony NWZ-A865B has a lot to offer users, from its big 3.4-inch OLED screen, to a tough aluminium design and decent sound quality. One of the big plus points over listening to music on your mobile is the fact that it won’t kill the battery life on your phone, letting you chat to people when you need it most.

We’ve had over 50 comments in the past few hours, with all sorts of different viewpoints. Alex ‘Beefy’ Brockie thinks that the Sony is a good thing, and that “it’s about time Apple stopped dominating the market”. Nathan Cohen disagrees, however, pointing out “I’ll stay with my iPod forever!”.

Michael Austin is another user who’s happy to stick with a dedicated media player over a mobile phone, stating: “It wont be long before i’m cleaning my teeth with my iPhone!! Some devices should be left alone i love my media player.”

Chris Gibson also appears to be in favour of the Sony, claiming “It’s initially for playing music on, something that Sony does one hell of a lot better then your gimicky iPlod”.

Rob Nash remains a big fan of Apple, however, claiming “Apple is the future and its about time we had something to keep other companies on their toes. It will seek out the weak and help make the next best grow and put more time and effort into their own products but be warned, Apple will remain 2 steps ahead of the game!!!”
