Sony unveils rollable OLED

Sony has just unveiled a Minority Report-style OLED screen that’s so thin and flexible that it can be rolled up – welcome to the future!

The sci-fi-seeming feat has been achieved on a 4.1-inch screen, with a resolution of 432×240 and has been captured on a Sony promo video. As you can see from the footage, the screen isn’t perfect, with some horizontal lines on the image, but it still represents a leap into the future of LED screens.

Rollable displays have been around for a little while now, but this new Sony creation has the best display we’ve seen – and it’s also the first that will keep playing as it’s rolled.

This technology could really change the way our gadgets work. Could we all be carrying roll-out screens in a couple of years’ time, just ready to unfurled for movie viewing or computing on the go? What do you think? Have your say below…

This is incredicle. I mean imagine the scope! The first thing that jumps to my mind is newspapers and other originally paper documents. Imagine always owning a newspaper (potentially 3G) and then everyday the new paper uploads onto it. Roll it up, take it on the tube, read at your desk, read it at home. The only draw back would be the teeth marks in it if you've trained the dog to bring it to you. Equally there had to be potential for it as a canvas. You could display your pictures at an art gallery, they'd show the full potential of the colours used and then could be rolled away and taken to a different showing. Or as an actual palet for an art student? We already have 'arty' apps available on the iphone and ipad so why couldn't they be transfered to this stunning piece of technology. Imagine a canvas that never had to dry, that never creased it would be a miricale for artists. Im sure you guys can come up with other brilliant uses for it
