Samsung Tablet to take on the iPad
Does the iPad have another rival?
Samsung has just revealed that it will be joining the Tablet PC fray later this year. Yet another rival to the Apple iPad will join the rapidly expanding touchscreen market, making it the hottest new gadget group around.
A top exec at Sammy told Australian website APC that the device will have the processing power of a netbook and will be better connected than its rivals. He also controversially claimed that smartphones would become “secondary devices” and that Tablet PCs will overtake them in terms of popularity.
What do you think – will Tablets take off like Samsung claims? Will you be investing in one this year, and if so, which one? Have your say below…

I think that the iPad type devices could be the answer for the more mature person. Initially aimed at the fast uptake business and young market, as the products mature so I think that there will be a steady uptake by the those that want to help get the older members of the family on line. Currently you need a computer to get on line and that is a major sticking point, much more so than broadband speed. What those that are not currently on line want is a product that arrives almost pre-setup, ideally with the WiFi router and docking station being one. Take it out of the box, plug in the power and the telephone socket, then when charged up go through a simple set up procedure in order to get online. The Government could then offer a booklet on how to download apps for themselves, citizens advice, library service, NHS direct, etc. Perhaps when the iPad comes out Jon Bentley could review it with part of that review answering the question,"is it ideal for your Granny?". (cost, setup, use of a stylus with arthritic hands and apps available) Just a thought.

Its more than early adoption here. Comparing tablets between smartphones and pc is like saying a car is between a bike and a bus. The tablet format means you can read books and periodicals on it (not SP but yes PC) as well as have a reasonable view of web pages without squinting/magnifying and losing ground, or having to sit and have the net/notebook in your lap. With usbs, wifi, 3GS and windows, its a big handheld. Small isnt always better but 10-11in is a good size.

"...the processing power of a netbook and will be better connected than its rivals" Will it run windows 7 and be of some practical use? Will it have a USB port? Very exciting.

Just heard about Kindle App for Tablets, Running on tablets like this could really hurt international sales of the iPad, that don't have a bookstore anounced (yet).
