Vote: Ray-Bans v Oakley
The sun is most definitely out, so it’s lotion at the ready, hats out and sunglasses on your noggin. But which pair of sunnies do you go for? The classic Ray-bans or modern Oakleys?
Sported by the likes of Michael Jackson, Andy Warhol, Jenson Button and Barack Obama, the Ray-Bans are about more than just style. They’re about history. Created in the 1920s for airforce pilots, they sported an extremely lightweight gold-plated frame and two green lenses made from mineral glass that filtered out infrared and ultra-violet rays. The classic oversized design may sport some simple technology, bit it’s extremely… and very, very cool.
Oakley, meanwhile, was started in a garage laboratory in 1975. The first Oakley shades ever created were called the Oakley O-Frame goggles and were made from Unobtainium. The fact they gripped your face like an excited squid made them the preserve of extreme sportsers, who consequently turned Oakley cool. Packing all manner of tech and metals (plutonite, titanium, to name but two) the Oakleys boast both function and form in abundance.
But which deserves entry onto the Wall of Fame? have your say in the poll below…
