Ortis gets Hobnox-ious!

Monday 20 July

As well as the latest news and Jon testing the O2 Joggler, Ortis gets to grips with the online Hobnox software

If you like to think you’re a bit of a musician, but you’ve got about as much song-writing talent as Katie Price with a Crayola, then maybe you should check out the Hobnox Audio Tool musical software.

It’s a browser-based software, so it’s already a winner in my book. Anything that means less messing around gets the thumbs up. There’s no downloading or installing here – just click a link and you’re ready to go.

Essentially the Hobnox Audio tool is an entertainment and publishing platform. You create a tune, then put them up into a community via some social networking software on the sit so they can listen to it, grade it and pass it on… or not, depending on how good or bad it is.

The software mimics real life musical products (tone generators, drum sequencers or effects pedals) and you can connect these together as you would on a pro system. It’s all made accessible, though, with four presets and live recording which records to your own Hobnox account. It’s like a virtual recording studio on your PC. Unfortunately, as I found out, you still need a bit of talent to ensure your final track doesn’t sound like a ring tone.
