Money, money, money…
…it makes the world go round. But what would you spend £100 million on?
You may have heard in the news recently that Manchester City made a proposed £100 million bid (subsequently refused) for a Brazilian footballist named Kaka. Now, that’s just silly money (and a silly name). But it got me thinking. If I had unlimited resources to spend on a single gadget, what would I buy?
Indeed, there are plenty of luxurious pieces of tech available, from solid gold Mobiado and Vertu phones, to carbon-footprint-increasing golf cart Humvees. While these are expensive, they don’t exactly hit the sort of figure that is apparently the going rate for a Brazilian No 10 these days. I mean for a pair of KEF Muon speakers you’re “only” looking at £70,000. Pocket change!
If you want to spend millions you need to start thinking transportation. Aeroplanes, cars, luxury camper vans, those mobile “homes” Formula 1 drivers get around in. I’ve got my eye on the HondaJet – Honda’s first commercially available jet that goes on sale from 2010. But even that will “only” cost $3.65 million. I suppose you could pair it up in your hangar with a Eurocopter AS355 Twin Squirrel – but that’s also a “snip” at two mill.
Alternatively, if you don’t like flying, you could go for the Volkner Mobil motorhome. Okay, just the word motorhome makes you think of something a gypsy might live in, but this is one of the most ridiculously luxurious “gadgets” you’ll find. It has a dining room, granite-clad kitchen, marble floors, sleeping quarters and… a built-in garage for your Maserati. There’s no price specified, but we reckon it has to be upward of £10 million. Failing that, we’ll just buy a fleet of luxurious yachts!
