Is this the end of the wire?
You’ve got your flatscreen on your wall, but the slag heap of wires underneath is spoiling your view. What’s a man, or indeed a woman to do? Well, that’s the question that I was hoping to answer when I went to the States recently to find out about… wireless electricity!
First up I headed to Boston to catch up with the guys at WiTricity who have developed a way of powering compatible gadgets from up to 1.5m away wirelessly. Their system uses electro-magnetic energy. A hidden source coil will turn mains electricity into electro-magnetic waves, which are then picked up by the coil in your compatible gadget and turn it back into electricity, which then powers said gadget. Awesome.
Next up, I visited PowerCast – a company with a similar goal, but a different method of reaching that goal. PowerCast uses radio waves to charge tech. The really exciting aspect of this is that RF wireless power is everywhere, so when all our tech is embedded with receivers, they’ll be able to harvest all that ambient power to function. Wires? Who needs ‘em?

In this or another feature I saw a device which used RF Harvesting to charge a mobile phone - can you advise if this has made it into public use yet?

How different a method considering they both use teslas work which is over 50 years old or so. He had it working then but the big money makers were not keen on his ideas cause they could lead to free energy in the end an a better society and they knew this but loads of his work was kept secret. They both use resonance to transfer the electricity an could well have been in use decades ago.

i think it is a great idea .this HR &wireless electricity will make those areas more beautiful viz are conjusted with wires & also provide compact & safe use of electricity.we can use another meduim (air)instead of wires with the help of types of waves .

If this could be used to run street lights as the radio waves are all around surely this is a way forward that the world govrments should be investing in rather then building another reactor .
