I leave my phone and i-pod in the airing cupboard to dry out. The warm air gets into to all the nooks and crannys to draw out the moisture!

just got back from Camping trip. Months worth of rain in one night. found camera and phone outside, took batteries out and sim cards etc and put on radiator. Both work fine. Airing cupboard works as well. Have used that method.

i dropped my first phone in the boating lake, in winter it was frozen apart from one bit which is where my phone fell. luckily i manged to get it out i took it home, took it apart and put it in the airing cupboard to dry out till the net day, i was VERY impressed to find out that it still worked the Sim card didn't survive though and when i pressed the down button it carried on itself through my contacts but for it to still work and more impressive it was 8 years ago :)

As far as cases go I've got an Otterbox Defender case for my iPhone 3G, and when I get back to the UK (I'm in the South Atlantic at the moment) and upgrade to an iPhone 4 I'll be getting the same one for that! It does double the width of the phone but it has taken more drops from waist height onto concrete than I can remember, the buttons are actually easier to use with it on, apart from the ringer silence switch, and I don't have to worry about rain or snow damaging it, which is useful down here.
