Has everyone got it in for Apple?
Love em or hate em, Apple's products are undeniably sexy
When you talk about Apple there are two clearly defined groups: Apple lovers and Apple haters. Whichever group you fall into it’s undeniable that the big A creates some masterful products and has an almost unrivalled ability to make technology exciting.
Just look at the products it produces: the iMac, the iPhone, the touch, the MacBook Pro. These are all the most sexy products in their fields. So what makes people hate them? Is it that everyone seems to want their products? Is it that they’re so expensive? Is it the way the media seems to fall over itself whenever a new Apple product comes out? Maybe all the above.
That hatred doesn’t rest solely with the public. Only today we’ve seen a couple of products released that are clearly taking on two of Apple’s prized iPod line-up. The bizarrely named Creative Zii EGG is aiming high at the iPod touch, while the Archos Clipper has the Shuffle firmly in its sights.
The first, the Creative Zii EGG, sports a 3.5-inch touchscreen, runs Android and plays full-HD video! Now if that doesn’t sound like a touch-baiting product I don’t know what does.
The second, the Archos Clipper, is a stripped down 2GB MP3 player, is about the same size as the Shuffle, and costs three times less! Talk about trying to price your enemies out of the market!
So what do I conclude from this little ditty? That everyone hates Apple. And the reason? Because everyone loves Apple. Right, I’m officially confused.

I think a lot of it, at least here in the UK, has to do with the fact that us Brits love to hate success. We take great delight in dissing anything popular - and I think it's partly fuelled by papers like the Daily Mail. I wouldn't say I'm an Apple fanboi, but I use an iMac for desktop publishing and I recently bought an iPhone, and I have to say I love them. Really looking forward to the Gadget Show's return to our screens!

The fact is, neither of those products will better the iPod Touch or Shuffle, as the Shuffle has iTunes, software that everyone knows (now like Windows) and most likely has their music in, and the Touch has the App Store (as well as iTunes), so now many people do not buy a touch as a media device, it is a device that does lots of things all at once.

The bad feeling toward Apple is almost entirely down to one thing; poor value for money. No amount of looking great is ever going to make up for the fact that in the same spec system a Mac will always be several hundred pound more than the PC. The only reason for this is that Apple want it that way. They could outsource production of hardware. In software they could take on Windows 7 and win. But they can't be bothered.

Apple's are absolutely good value for money, simply because they're way better than Windows etc rivals. Same goes for the iPod family and iPhone. Yeah yeah, PCs are cheaper, but they're not half as good. They're not as clever, come with less software included, and are far and away trickier to use. Apple's are sleek, easy to use, come with loads of equipment and the aftersales/customer care is top-notch. Worth every penny, in my opinion. Looking forward to Gadget Show's return!!

Apple proves the old maxim if you want the best then you must pay for it. I have an Imac it is about 12 years old, runs a version of windows, (this is the only software that locks up) and I am only considering changing it because its processor is struggling to handle the amount of data that is on an Internet page these days. Beautifully designed products, seamless interoperability, easy operation. I can't wait for what is coming next. Go Go Apple Go!!

Hi....I love apple products. The only apple product i have is a ipod nano 2n generation. I would love to own a apple macbook as they are very good computers, i just don't have that kind of money to spend on a computer. That's why i enter the gadget show competitions because they always have a apple computer in them....:)

@Daniel: "the Touch has the App Store (as well as iTunes), so now many people do not buy a touch as a media device, it is a device that does lots of things all at once." What part of 'it runs android' is confusing you? Give me a truly open source platform any day. The FACT is that Creative have been in the digital audio game a long time and their MMPs are simply the best.

There are many reasons that Apple is not so widespread that it needs to be. .1. Compabitibility issues. Lot of Devices are not supported including USB Sticks(Pen Drives ) and External Hard drives. 2. Lack of Software (all my favorite software are for Windows. I am not yet sure about Spotify being available for Mac). Even Games. 3. Unable to copy data from various computers. I can sync my Ipod Touch/ Iphone with one PC only. If I want something from my friend PC , I am unable to do so. 4. Price is way high. 5. Apple Mac slows down a lot more than Windows system. 6. They are built to work with apple world only. If you try to use their device on Linux, they go haywire. 7. Connectivity with Windows/Linux is bad too. 8. If your device fails to work, There is no way but take it to Apple Center and get it fix which costs so much. Their queue is way long. You may have to work without your device for atleast 2 weeks. It happened with Mac. I had to get appointment. And ofcourse lack of available expert that know how to fix Apple product, if anything goes wrong. 9. Price for everything. Even Firmware update from 2.5 to 3.0 for Ipod Touch was chargeable. While most other products keep firmware update free. 10. They are built to look sexy and thats where half of the story ends. Your gadget show Season 7 Episode 1 N 95 Vs Apple Iphone. You were able to put many valid arguments. 11. Iphone hangs a lot. There is no way to restart it or make it work. My friend was travelling abroad and had all his travelling information on phone including hotel address and other locations. Phone decided to hang on International trip. He spend half a day at Apple center trying to convince them to fix his phone first and not queue it up. It was perfect nightmare where he could not even speak local dialect. With most mobile you can do regular fixes yourself. Remove battery etc. Nothing with Iphone 12. Apple products get very uncomfortabley hot. I am unable to hold Itouch anymore if I have used it over 2 hours. It stings. Mac Pro consumes more electricity than Sony Vaio.

@ Cody I seem to find your statement about usb pen drives and hard drive compatibility with Mac utter twaddle. I also strongly disagree with your statement about Macs being slow too. I am a proud owner of the latest Macbook Pro, and I would have agreed with you several years ago, because the only reason I changed to Mac was because it is simply better than Windows. I have Windows Vista installed on my Macbook, and I find it so slow and jerky, so that comment is rubbish, in fact it is making me wonder whether you have actually owned a Mac before. i agree with everybody else though, Apple does rock!

I find that apple products are great but i feel that the downfall for the ipod touch and the other apple music devices is that they cannot be synced from one computer to the other without wiping away your music and vids etc... also i think that the mac book air is over priced but extremely stylish. Also the gadget show team are awesome too. Keep up the great work guys.
