Get Abbey Road in your bedroom

Tuesday 04 May

On this week’s Web TV, I head to a British institution – Abbey Road Studios – to check out the technology behind one of the mot iconic recording studios on earth, and how it’s now coming to home studios.

Thanks to a new plug-in for music-making software such as Pro Tools, bedroom music-makers across the land can re-create the famous Abbey Road sound without hiring out Studio 2.

The Abbey Road sound is largely thanks to the RS124 compressor, and it’s this piece of kit that has been replicated in the Abbey Road plug-in, but there are also two different virtual drum kits to choose from too, again with a signature 70s feel.

Now, your musical skills might not be up there with The Beatles, but at least you can have some of the same sounds that helped them on their way.
