Mobiles have to be seen as the biggest leap foward. If ten years ago you'd said that you could search the web and make a video call on a device no bigger than the palm of your hand, anyone would have laughed at you. Smart phones such as Blackberrys and Nokia E71 surely demonstrate what is possible with this modern age. Microsoft word, email, streaming video online, online downloads, the list goes on. Close second i'd say is cars, the fact that car companies spend millions developing new eco-friendly cars is some consollation in this resestion. Ideas about how to replace fossil fuels including water, wind and even bannana's can only be a possitive thing. And my third i'd say is video games, graphics and game length. Its impossible to ignore the massive leaps foward. Quite possibly the biggest improvment is online play, almost compulsary for any new game (unless it's made by nintendo...). Just thought id add my idea's. Luke from Newcastle

Whilst I cannot deny that this last decade has shown the fastest pace of tech change, it all boils down to a mere 4 technologies... 1. The microprocessor. 2.storage - RAM / Flash all use the same basic design techniques as processors. 3. Hard drives have found new ways of squeezing information per square inch. 4.Batteries. Everything else is people coming up with new uses. If you think I'm kidding, take the iPod 160GB. It has more computing power than any machine pre-dating the mid-60's More RAM than any computer pre-dating 1980 and more Hard drive space than any computer pre-dating 1990. all in a package that fits in your pocket, and lasts for 30 hours of music on a charge.

Not many gadgets of note have been invented in the past 10 years... this will anger people, but the GSM mobile phones were launched in the early 90's. iPods were launched in 2000 but the first personal MP3 player ever released was in 1995 so I think this is going to be a hard one to call. I think it is Apple's OSX It is based on technology that pre dates the millennium but it was in launched by Apple close to the present form in 2000 It changed the face of many technologies from computers to mobile phones: The operating system in both the iPhone and iPod touch run on it, the iPhone was a game changer in the mobile phone space. You only need to glance at Vista or Windows 7 to see where the inspiration came from.

The gadget of the decade... Maybe we should be looking at the peripheral that has enabled so many other gadgets, the USB port? Probably the best extension to one of the most used devices, the Computer. The USB peripheral has come so far that they are now available in Mobile Phones, DVD Players, Printers, Car Stereos, TVs etc... Even the performance of the device has been enhanced from the early developments allowing greater throughput. USB ports even enable gadgets like the Yoggie Gatekeeper to work as a security device and a stand-alone PC freeing up resources on your computer... how cool is that? My vote goes to the USB port, surely a gadget in it's own right?

I am disgusted about the decision to nominate youtube for best computer gadget because youtube is a website not a gadget.I think the two laptops should not have been nominated beacause there will be better laptops out there over time. There will never be a piece of kit the size that a USB is that you can carry around the world. I think the likes of a USB flash drive should of won. With this well thought out peice of kit you can take your files documents any were in the world.Plus it is one of the only gadgets in the list. Thee are no flaws with this awesome bit of kit.
