Free TV from around the world

Thursday 04 March

On this weeks Web TV I’m trying out a new TV service called viewmy.tv. The idea’s not a new one – it’s a website bringing together TV content from around the world – but this is one of the most comprehensive and well presented examples that we’ve seen.

Simply choose a global region, then a country, then what genre you’d like, from lifestyle and entertainment, to news and sport, and then you can sit back, relax and enjoy the Ukraine’s top comedy show, or the latest news from Vatican City.

With the obvious omission of the US, viewmy.tv brings together a world of telly to our desktop, and what’s more it’s free. You can even embed channels in your own site.

It’s a little slow, but I think it shows a huge potential for worldwide TV viewing. What do you think? Is it a winner in your eyes? Let us know in the comments section below…

A great find Ortis! I'm already a big fan of TvCatchup on the iPhone, this takes it to a global scale. Shame there is no US TV but Canada and Aus' often get programmes before us too! I'm going to suggest this site on Facebook - it has huge potential for my friends learning forign languages and following global news

can you give me a reason why my last comment was so objectionable you deemed it unsuitable? what was wrong with it?

As it's all low bit rate the picture is rather pixilated and therefore annoying to watch. Anyway do we need 1000's more channels showing more filler than Freeview, Sky etc?

Hi Ortis! Thanks for that website(www.viewmy.tv)! I'm from Spain but I live in the UK at the moment and I'm so glad I can watch spanish tv for free now. So no homesickness any more ;) Thanks again, I love it! :)

@Shaun: Your question - do we need 1000s more channels? Well, you may not but I can see many people you would be interested. People who are away from their own countries or people who are studying other languages; this is a global TV portal after all.

Honestly it's horrible. All the streams you want to watch don't work. And the 2 or 3 that do work are all pixelated. Then there's the fact that no one is ever on there talking. It's completely empty..so the social is missing. The design is ugly and the interface is so clunky that the player sometimes gets hidden by the navigation system. There's nothing worth watching on that site and what's worse is they really make every effort to spam out their links (do a google search and see what I mean). ViewMy.TV is Horrible
