Binmen to get Blackberrys
Better make sure that you haven’t breached any bin etiquette recently – your binman could have a BlackBerry to snap your transgression.
One of the UK’s biggest rubbish collectors, Biffa, has given its binmen BlackBerrys to increase their productivity.
1,500 of Biffa’s staff have been issued with “rugged BlackBerrys” inorder to collect data from customers, download maps and keepin contact with bosses.
The devices will also be used to track the location of rubbish trucks to ensure there’s no slacking on shifts. A Biffa spokesperson said that the BlackBerrys could also be use to snap overfilled bins or bad recycling.
The “binmen BlackBerrys” form part of a £1.75m deal with Vodafone to supply Biffa with 3,100 handsets, including regular BlackBerrys and 3G dongles.
What do you think? Is this a good idea to get mobile staff connected or a pie in the sky idea? Have your say below…

I think that's a great idea - it might save Biffa a ton of cash in the long run, even if it's expensive at the moment.
