Are these the ultimate gadget wellies?
Wellies, as everyone knows, are an essential piece of festival kit. As are mobile phones. So what about wellies that could charge your mobile phone?
Yes, Orange has just revealed the Orange Power Wellies – a phone charging prototype to help keep festival-goers in contact.
Orange, one of the sponsors of the Glastonbury festival, has a history of debuting groundbreaking eco gadgets at the event. In years past we’ve seen the Recharge Pod – a tent powered by wind and solar energy, the Dance Charger, which drew upon kinetic energy created by freaky dancing and the Orange Power Pump that converted the power from a traditional foot pump.
The Orange Power Wellies were created in conjunction with renewable energy experts with the slightly unfortunate name of GotWind. They work by using a unique “power generating sole” that converts heat from your feet into an electrical current. This “welectricity” can then be used to recharge your mobile.
Apparently 12 hours of stomping through the Glastonbury mud in your Orange Power Wellies will give you enough power to charge a mobile phone for one hour. If you up your BPMs you could up your charge power.
If you want to see the power wellies in action, they’ll be showcasing at this year’s Glastonbury festival.
