Citroen announces all-electric C-Zero

Citroen has announced an all-electric city car called the C-Zero, which is due for launch late next year.

The C-Zero is a full-electric vehicle powered by a 64bhp magnet synchronous motor with maximum torque of 133lb-ft available at 0-2,000rpm. The motor is powered by a 330-volt lithium ion battery mounted in the centre of the car and is mated to an automatic transmission.

The C-Zero is capable of 0-62mph in 15 seconds on to a top speed of 80mph. A range of around 80 miles is expected.

Citroen says the C-Zero can be charged via a traditional 220-volt domestic socket, with a full charge taking around six hours. Alternatively, an 80% charge is possible in 30 minutes using an external station with a single-phase current of 125A at 400V. Drivers can check on the level of charge thanks to a battery charge indicator on the instrument panel, which replaces the fuel gauge.

Despite measuring just 3.48m long, the C-Zero features four full seats inside and a 166-litre boot, while standard features include power steering, ABS, traction control, ESP, electric windows, six airbags and air conditioning.
